Dear Parents and
Athletes,
January 2003
It’s track time again!
Welcome back to another great and exciting year with the Our Lady of Mount
Carmel’s Track and Field program. We are now in our 20th year of
providing a healthy, competitive, but most importantly a fun program for
athletes in grades 4th through 8th grade. For those of you signing up for
the first time, we welcome you and look forward to having you as part of
our team.
Our program begins
Monday March 10 (except for 8th graders who begin March 5) and ends
Saturday April 26th for most runners. However, if you qualify for the
post season, the season continues and ends with the CYO Championship meet
in early June. (See Post Season Qualification Criteria for more details).
This information
booklet contains all the pertinent information you will need during the
season. It has “tentative” schedules, practices times and sites,
directions/maps to track meet locations, and special events. We ask that
you keep this booklet handy at all times for future reference. Please
note that dates and times may change during the course of the season. We
will inform you or your child of all announcements, and changes at the end
of our practices. If you miss a practice or leave early, it is your
responsibility to seek out any missed announcements. We will do our best
to announce changes several days in advance. Also, if you have an E-mail
address, please list it on the application. We will send changes through
E-Mail accordingly.
Parents, the success
of our program has been a result of your involvement. This includes your
time at meets cheering for the team and volunteering. We can always use
more parents assisting at the meets as timers and recorders. If you’re
interested in assisting during the meet as a timer or recorder, please let
us know. Also, any of you interested in coaching or helping out during
practices? We have approximately 20 plus coaches. We have a large team
and the more coaches we have assisting is a benefit to the kids. No
experience is required. If you enjoy running, jumping, or shot putting,
we would love your enthusiasm and efforts. If interested, or you have any
questions, please see Mr. Lafferty or Mr. Losorelli.
Also, please note
these important requirements for being part of the team. First, you must
be in grades 4th through 8th grade. Second, you must be a registered
parishioner at any of the local Catholic churches. We encourage all
children, regardless of parish, to run with us. However if your local
parish has an organized CYO track team, you are obligated to run for that
team. The Our Lady of Guadalupe runners will continue to be part of the
OLMC team. Next year 2004, Our Lady of Guadalupe will start it’s first
year as an organized team.
It is very important
that you ensure that you are registered with the parish. Any runner that
participates with the team, and is not registered, will disqualify the
entire team during the post season.
Again, welcome to Our
Lady of Mount Carmel’s Track and Field 2002.
Sincerely, the OMLC

Mission Statement
CYO Sports is one
component of a parish’s comprehensive youth ministry program which enables
the partnership of parents, coaches, priests, religious, teachers, and
adult leaders to manage and support a sports program that allows youth to
grow in their relationship with God and come to better understand
themselves and the Catholic Faith.
Such a program:
?
Employs
healthy and enjoyable competition to promote the sharing of gospel values
among athletes, parents, and coaches.
?
Assists
parish leadership in nourishing the emotional, spiritual, social, and
physical needs of young people.
?
Encourages young people to appreciate the gifts that they possess, and
challenges them to share these gifts with their community.
?
Allows
youth to witness the life of Christian discipleship in their coaches and
adult leaders.
Encourages youth to
become responsible members of their faith community.
